Distraction techniques in children with dental fear and anxiety

Introduction: Children with dental fear and anxiety try all means to avoid or delay treatment, it results in the deterioration of their oral health. Distraction techniques are strategies that overload patient's limited attention span, diverting from unpleasant procedures thus being a safe strategy. Objective: To analyze most recent literature on distraction children anxiety, such as music, audiovisual distraction, animal-assisted therapy sensorially adapted environments, effectiveness. Methodology: A comprehensive search was performed PubMed using keywords fear, children. Results: The music technique cases proves be effective reducing pain during clinical children; virtual reality goggles has proved useful tool reduce treatment; shown promising management but needs studied more rigorously corroborate its efficacy; sensory environment very little information, however, good have been observed use for benefits special abilities.Conclusion: available studies show mentioned can treatment children, including those abilities. However, certainty evidence them is low, so future research comparing different among age groups recommended.
